With any luck, this will be the first of many “sleepy ambient” bits; similar in spirit to Winter Ambient Nonsense .
For sleepy ambient music, I record sound as I fall asleep. After I wake up, I delete all of the silence and layer up the “best bits”. I have a MicroQ set up next to my bed. I lie with my eyes closed, gradually building up a patch, my fingers feeling around the control panel, gently sending myself off to sleep.
The textures in the video were made by setting up a fractal noise generator for each of the R,G and B video channels then slowly altering noise parameters.
More sleepy sounds for sleeping For sleepy ambient music I record the sound whilst slowly falling asleep, then I trim off the silence and edit in the morning. Sometimes I prepare a long section of the previous night’s recordings and overdub more layers.
